Aquarium trip

On Tuesday, 11th of June 2024 the grade 1's went on an excursion to the Aquarium at the Waterfront. The learners were so excited and even though the teachers explained to them what to expect, they were still in awe of their experience. We could feel and see their excitement when we got into the 2 buses. Some of them telling us that it's their 1st time in a bus! We take it for granted that some stuff is a given anywhere, but then you hear from the learners themselves and you see their happy faces and you know that we as teachers are really making a difference in our learners' lives.

At the Aquarium the Afrikaans and English learners were split for a puppet show, which our learners enjoyed so much. The walkabout inside the Aquarium was a wow for everyone. We just heard, "Look at that fish! Look at that shark! Juffrou kyk daai grote! Juffrou wat is daai?" And it's during that moments we realized that our outing was the best decision that we could've made for our learners. They were also shown how 2 divers fed the sharks, while one of the staff explained the procedure to the learners and also more about sharks, etc. They saw the penguins too and again, it was amazing to see that they can't believe that they are seeing animals that they normally just see on the television!

On the photos you can see on their faces how much they enjoyed it. Thank you to all parents who made this trip a reality for our learners. So save up parents, the next trip are in the pipeline. 🫶
